It’s been just over a week since landing and I am feeling amazing! I have finally settled into my home, now complete with a huge tapestry on the wall that I found at a local hippie shop. I even figured out how to do laudery for the first time! We don’t have a dryer so we have to hang everything out in the backyard, which is an interesting change from back home. We have some amazing grocery stores in the area so it has been fun buying new, healthy foods and cooking at home. We had a barbecue party at our house a few nights ago and tonight again with the whole Arcadia group, which was a blast! This week was pretty hectic with orientation stuff and registering for classes. Every day I have been challenging myself to always say yes to new experiences and to take advantage of having this free time in Cape Town before school begins. Lots of going out to fun restaurants, bars, and beaches. We even did a very hard hike up Lion’s Head mountain and got some amazing pics up there!
Something interesting: Cape town is in an extreme power crises in regards to electricity. Almost everyday, they turn off the power for about two hours! Usually during the most inconvenient times like 8 pm – 10 pm. It is the weirdest thing, all of the sudden the entire neighborhood goes black. Not even street lamps remain lit. They post the schedule online to when they are shutting the power, but it is still so different and weird to be walking through the streets and then all of the sudden every shop and house goes completely black. Also, the internet here is HORRIBLE. Today is the first day in three days that I have had internet access on my computer. I guess this is where “it doesn’t suck, its just different” comes into play.
